Pahto

I wish I was updating more about what is going on in Yakama, because it is truley a testimony of God at work...and honestly I cannot wait to share it. But for now a little update Tomorrow afternoon 3 of us. Me, Kyle and Dave are heading to trek up the south western route in hopes to summit the gloriousAdams. The great Pahto. Sleeping one night at Lunch Counter, and hiking the rest on the Lord's day. I am beside myself.

Photos from the Prep Hike, since which we have lost four hiking partners.

These are my GREAT friends

This has been a great summer. And I have benefited greatly from the great people I've been living with. Seven of us are heading up next weekend to climb Mount Adams, I am stoked.

Throat singing anyone, and a shout out to Winnipeg

Sorry I could never find links to some of these peoples music. But for anyone who has a real music intrigue should look up this group of two ladies named "Madeline and Sylvia" this was a phenomenan intimate creation of sound out of their throats which they perpetuated through circular breathing. If anyone can find anything about them. I would LOVE to know.

Well Winnipeg Manitoba hosted an aboriginal people's choice music award ceremony, first annual for all first nations and indian american music! It is deffinitally worth celebrating, the show awards music of all kinds, both traditional pow wow music and contemporary music. I couldn't get enough of listening to contemporary first nations music with traditional pow wow dancers. Unreal, beautiful, breathtaking, mindblowing, TRANSFORMING

Tonight we all gathered to watch the award show, I saw some pretty lame things. And a lot of really great things. Let me show off a little.

Indi.

Happy Independence day. To a country with much at fault, and a lot to offer. A country where citizens are willing and able to fight for what they think is right. By far the longest surviving government in place to this day. Happy Independence day since 1776.

Totus

Everyday..well almost everyday if the wind isn't too bad, we go to Totus park which is a tribal housing project which used to be the roughest part of White Swan. Locals say that it has been improving over the last year or so. At Totus we play in the field and on the courts with lots o kids, and we do activitis like tell a story and provide games and crafts. This has been a very powerful time to get to know little ones and older ones in the community and let them know that we love them. It is hard to go into detail about the impact serving in Totus has because of all the emotions it evokes, but know that it is a huge priveledge and a worthy place to spend an afternoon if not more.

Pow Wow Wow

This last weekend was Treaty Days celebration. A celebration for the signing of the treaty giving them tribal land. This is one of the biggest celebrations for them of the year...Independence day comes to a close second.
on Wednesday and Thursday of last week, me and a couple of fellas mowed grass and picked up around the longhouse and pavillion in White Swan. And all weeekend there was pow wow celebrations all day and all night long. They were also playing 'stick games'. And there was a rodeo going on the whole weekend too..so we bounced around between the three. The rodeo is probably my favorite..it is risky business..on one event called the wild horse race they herd fresh wild horses put them in the shoots and teams of three have to hold them down, mug them, saddle them, and ride them around the arena. There have been many fatal and serious injuries doing this event. I wish I had the bravery to do it some of you would say I'd be foolish.
